NEW FACES

• Barry Nur Portney was hired at the Thomaston Yoga Studio to teach qi gong. He has been a student of qi gong for more than 20 years. He is a certified teacher in the Healing Tao approach. He is also a certified medical qi gong practitioner.

• Christopher King joined Wells Fargo Home Mortgage as a home mortgage consultant. King has more than 10 years of experience in mortgage origination and underwriting. He was previously with Cumberland County Mortgage.

PROMOTIONS

• Verrill Dana promoted two attorneys and changed the title of a member of its administrative team.

Tim Shannon has been elected a partner of the firm. He joined Verrill Dana in May 2010 after working in the litigation department of a Boston firm.

Anne Birgel Cunningham was promoted to counsel. Cunningham serves clients in Verrill Dana’s labor and employment group.

David Bois‘ title has changed from executive director to chief operating officer. He has served at Verrill Dana since 1996.

• Christina Caron was appointed director of advancement services at Husson University. Caron joined the university’s advancement office in 2010 as assistant director of development, annual giving.

• Kristy Pendexter was promoted to employee benefits account executive at Insurance Trust of Westbrook. She will be working with credit unions and small businesses.

Jeremy Cote was promoted from intern to online marketing strategist.

Laurie Trifoso was promoted from intern to client services manager and sales.

• Todd Griset and Jeffrey Talbert were named partners at Preti Flaherty.

• The Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project recently held its annual awards event, honoring several volunteers.

Drummond Woodsum received ILAP’s Pro Bono Firm Award.

Jack Montgomery of Bernstein Shur was named the Pro Bono Attorney of the Year.

Kathy DeGrandpre of Portland was awarded Development Volunteer of the Year.

Mary Lu Gallaudet of Cumberland Center was awarded Intake Volunteer of the Year.

Jane Makela of Falmouth was named Forms Volunteer of the Year.

Leslie Merrill of Portland was named Community Volunteer of the Year.

• Linda McGill and Roy W. Tilsley, attorneys with Bernstein Shur, were recently recognized with awards for pro bono and community service.

McGill received the Sumner T. Bernstein Pro Bono Service Award for her work on a variety of pro bono initiatives, including the International Senior Lawyers Project.

Tilsley received the Barnett I. Shur Community Service Award for his work with New Horizons for New Hampshire.

GENERAL

• Maine Handicapped Skiing has changed its name to Maine Adaptive Sports and Recreation. The growth and expansion of the 30-year-old organization’s four-season activities and programs has prompted the development of its new identity, including the name change, a new logo and an updated website.

• Camden National Bank recently announced plans to expand into the Augusta market. The new branch will be located at 22 Western Ave. The property will undergo significant renovations during 2012. The branch will be the 39th Camden National Bank location in Maine.

• WellTree Inc. earned the 2011 Angie’s List Super Service Award for the third consecutive year.

BOARD APPOINTMENTS

• Andrea Andrus joined the board of directors at the Kids First Center. Andrus, of South Portland, is a business and health care executive currently working as an independent consultant.

• Nancy Strojny was named chair of the board of directors for Portland SCORE.
