BOSTON – John Sewall sank a long 3-pointer at the buzzer Tuesday night to give the University of Southern Maine a 72-71 win over UMass – Boston in a Little East men’s basketball game.

Chris Pagentine had 19 points for Southern Maine (7-8, 1-5). Conor Sullivan added 16 points and eight rebounds and Alex Kee had 11 points and nine boards.

UMass-Boston is 5-11, 1-5.

UNE 60, EASTERN NAZARENE 54: Charles Fenner III had 16 points and seven rebounds for the Nor’easters (1-12, 1-5 Commonwealth Coast), who used a 14-4 second-half run to take a 53-43 lead on the Crusaders (3-11, 2-5) at Quincy, Mass.

Marcus Winn added 11 points and Jarryd Rossignol had 10 for UNE.

(2) KENTUCKY 86, ARKANSAS 63: Freshman Anthony Davis scored a career-high 27 points and blocked seven shots to set a season school record as Kentucky (18-1, 4-0 SEC) beat visiting Arkansas (13-5, 2-2).

The Wildcats won their 10th straight overall and extended the nation’s longest home winning streak to 46, including 45 straight at Rupp Arena.

(10) GEORGETOWN 83, DePAUL 75: Jason Clark scored a career-high 31 points and Georgetown (15-3, 5-2 Big East) dominated the rebounding in beating host DePaul (10-8, 1-5).

(20) MICHIGAN 60, (9) MICHIGAN ST. 59: Stu Douglass made a layup with 36.5 seconds remaining to give host Michigan (15-4, 5-2 Big Ten) a win over Michigan State (15-4, 4-2).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

UNE 61, EASTERN NAZARENE 32: Beth Suggs scored 24 points for the Nor’easters (10-3, 5-1 CCC) during a victory over Eastern Nazarene (7-7, 4-3) in Quincy, Mass.

Suggs scored the first seven points of the game for UNE, and Kelley Paradis the next eight for a quick 19-4 lead.

COLBY 70, UM-PRESQUE ISLE 33: Diana Manduca had a game-high 15 points and Rachael Mack was 4 for 4 from 3-point range as the Mules (11-2) beat UM-Presque Isle (5-10) in Waterville.

Jil Vaughan added 14 points for the Mules, and Jen Nale 11. Rashell Saucier’s 13 led the Owls.

The Mules led 38-17 at halftime and held the Owls to just four points in the first 13 minutes of the second half to go up 65-21.

SOUTHERN MAINE 83, UMASS-BOSTON 60: Courtney Cochran scored 17 points to lead Southern Maine (12-4, 4-2) past the Beacons (5-11, 2-4) during Little East Conference play in Boston.

The Huskies, ahead 10-9 five minutes into the game, outscored the Beacons 39-17 over the remainder of the half for a 49-26 lead. Haley Jordan scored all 13 of her points in the first half.

Nicole Garland finished with 14 points for USM, and Erin McNamara 10 points. Lauren Perra had 18 points for the Beacons. Kirsten Morrison added 15 points, while Teresa Pina tossed in 12.

(2) NOTRE DAME 120, PITTSBURGH 44: Devereaux Peters scored 20 points in 18 minutes to lead Notre Dame (18-1, 6-0 Big East) over visiting Pittsburgh (8-11, 0-6) – the most lopsided Big East victory for the Fighting Irish.

 

ST. JOHN’S 62, (7) RUTGERS 57: Eugeneia McPherson scored 17 points and Nadirah McKenith added 15 to help St. John’s (12-7, 4-2 Big East) shock visiting Rutgers (15-3, 4-1).

(19) GEORGETOWN 67, MARQUETTE 39: Sugar Rodgers scored 18 points and Tommacina McBride added 14 as visiting Georgetown (15-4, 4-2 Big East) dumped Marquette (12-7, 3-3).

SOUTH FLORIDA 66, (21) DEPAUL 63: Akila McDonald hit a layup with 9 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime and South Florida (11-8, 3-2 Big East) beat visiting DePaul (15-4, 3-2).

OKLAHOMA 65, (23) KANSAS STATE 57: Aaryn Ellenberg had a season-high 31 points to go with nine steals, and Oklahoma (11-5, 3-2 Big 12) held off a last-gasp rally by host Kansas State (13-4, 4-1).

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

SOUTHERN MAINE 3, BOWDOIN 3: Julia Pearl scored twice in the third period, including the tying goal with 28 seconds remaining in regulation, as Southern Maine (4-8-3) rallied to tie the Polar Bears (6-5-3) in Brunswick.

Katie Paradis added a goal and an assist for the Huskies. Kayte Holtz and Kenzie Novak each had a goal and a assist for Bowdoin.
