N.Y.-bound show on tap at Marshwood High School
Thirty high school students from Eliot and South Berwick will head to New York in April to perform “Fame: The Musical” at the Big Apple Classic Performing Arts Festival.
The Marshwood High School drama department was nominated anonymously last year for the American High School Theater Festival and won a spot in the 2014 Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland. The New York trip takes the place of that excursion, which had to be declined because of cost and logistics.
Advance performances of the show will be given at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and again on April 4 and 5, at the Marshwood High auditorium, 260 Dow Highway.
Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door.

Middle school students presenting ‘Pan’ musical
Wells Junior High students will present their spring musical, “Peter Pan and Wendy,” at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday in the Ward Gymnasium.
Based on the original story by James M. Barrie, the production of the classic children’s tale features the music of Beatrice Alderman, Dorian Welch, Marie Louka and Claude Debussey with script and lyrics by Eric Stedman.
It is directed by Ronda Verges.

Historian to give talk about slaves brought to Maine
Candace Kane, curator and historian for Maine Memory Network, will give a talk at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Union Church, 3 Stonecliff Road, Biddeford Pool.
Kane is also curator of the Maine Historical Society’s current display, “Civil War: Rebellion: Maine and the Civil War.”
She will recount stories of slaves who were brought to Maine by soldiers, in addition to discussing her PowerPoint presentation on Maine and the Civil War.
The talk is free and part of the church’s 150th anniversary celebration. Dessert will be served.

‘The Irish in Maine’ will be topic of library talk
Michael Connolly, Saint Joseph’s College professor of history, will speak about “The Irish in Maine” at 7 p.m. Thursday at the North Gorham Public Library at 2 Standish Neck Road.
Author of a history of Irish longshoremen in Portland, Connolly edited “They Changed Their Sky: The Irish in Maine” and is currently working on a historical novel about Portland.

Book-making workshop at Portland Public Library

Oakhurst egg nog sales raise $20,405 for charity
Oakhurst Dairy has donated $20,405 to The Salvation Army of Northern New England through its 14th annual holiday Egg Nog campaign.
Since 1999, Oakhurst has donated a portion of its Egg Nog sales – 5 cents for every container sold during the holiday season – to The Salvation Army.
The funds raised will be divided between the Salvation Army’s 22 Corps Community Centers across Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont to supply meals, after-school tutoring, recreational activities and shelter for those in need.
To date, the company has donated more than $240,000 through this fundraising tradition.
