WINDHAM – Windham hosted the Class A state championship track meet last year, and Bonny Eagle walked home with both the girls and boys titles. When the Scots’ girls team returned to the Windham track on Tuesday, they found themselves with a little more competition on their hands.

The Eagles tied the Scots with 85 total points, and they shared the second place finish behind Cheverus, who wrapped the day up with just three more points. Sanford rounded out the scoring with 30.

Windham had a strong showing from Mary Margaret Green (triple jump) and Natalie Van Baars (100-meter), both of whom won their events. The Eagles also competed tough in the relay events, edging out Cheverus and Bonny Eagle in the 400 meter, and narrowly losing in the 1600 and 3200 meters.

Bonny Eagle showed why they captured the title last year, and why they’ll be in the thick of it come June this year as well. The Scots’ won seven events total, and had a solid showing from their relay teams. Samantha Cox easily won the 1600 meter, and Audrey Weyand snatched up wins in the 200 and 400 meter events, as well as the long jump.

Bonny Eagle also won the 1600 and 3200 relay events, and Sierra Cooper finished first in the pole vault. Gaelyn Lindauer took second place in the 300-meter hurdle event.
