The Bridgton Public Library will hold its regular summer used book sale at The Book Shed behind the library from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays until the end of August (weather permitting). Gently used books are always being donated to the book sale so stop by each week and see what is on offer.
The library will also be having a bookmaking class for ages 5 to 18 on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 10 a.m. until noon. Later that day, for adults, there will be an essential oils program from 1-2:30 p.m.

Pie heaven
The Ladies Guild of the First Congregational Church in Bridgton is holding a pie sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 18, at the church, 33 S. High St. All varieties of homemade pies will be available at an average price of $13. A
beautiful, handmade Quilt Raffle will also held.
Proceeds of the sale benefit the church’s outreach programs like Christmas Adopt-A-Child where local families receive needed children’s clothing. BBQ benefit
The Bridgton/Fryeburg Knights of Columbus will host a chicken and pulled pork
barbecue supper on Saturday, Aug. 18, at 5 p.m. The meal will be served at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. High St. Everyone is invited to come enjoy delicious barbecued chicken and pork along with salads, desserts and beverages. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for kids under 12. Proceeds from the event will go to support the Community of the Resurrection in Otisfield.
Sing after supper
Everyone is invited to join the South Bridgton Congregational Church for a public supper and hymn sing on Sunday, Aug. 19. The church will host one of its popular potluck suppers at 5 p.m., followed by singing favorite hymns accompanied by an organist.
The church is located at 16 Fosterville Road, off Route 107, in South Bridgton. Tickets are $10.. Call Karen at 693-2652 for more information and to make reservations.
Voices, trumpet and ukes
The Promise Singers, local trumpeter Jerry Emerson and Friends, and The CUKES will perform at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, in the third concert of the First Congregational Church of Bridgton Summer Series.
The Promise Singers, 13 female vocalists, performs sacred and secular music. Members are from the surrounding towns of Bridgton, Denmark, Fryeburg, Brownfield and Cornish.
Jerry Emerson’s trumpet can be heard in several groups in the Lake Region.
On Sunday, he’ll be joined by some of his friends from the Bridgton Community Band.
The CUKES (Church Ukulele Strummers) have been playing for a year.
Refreshments will follow in the church’s Fellowship Hall. The concert is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted to support the music mission of the church, which is located at 33. S. High St.
Medicinal herbs presentation
The Lakeside Garden Club will meet at the Bridgton Community Center, 15 Depot
St., at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 20. The speaker is local herbalist Corinne Martin, who retired from the University of Southern Maine where she taught courses in holistic and integrative health in the School of Nursing from 2002-2015. She has also practiced as a clinical herbalist for almost 30 years.
Martin has published two books: “Natural Remedies from the Wild” and a
recent grief memoir, “Letters from the Love Room: Mapping the Landscape of Loss,” as well as numerous articles.
The talk is free. All are welcome and light refreshments will be served.
Lyme support group
The new Bridgton Lyme Support Group will hold its first public meeting on Thursday, Aug. 23, at 7 p.m. at the Bridgton Community Center on Depot Street. Grab your pain reliever and hot pack and be prepared to share, laugh, be yourself, educate, learn and support one another.
This group is most suitable for those over 18. Feel free to bring a snack to share.

Block party
Food City is planning a neighborhood block party and everyone is invited.
Food City is partnering with Opportunity Alliance, specifically Communities Partnering for the Protection of Children, to host its first Neighborhood Block Party in the parking lot on Thursday, Aug. 30, from 2-5 p.m. There will be free food, prepared by Food City’s master chef, and lots of fun games and great music. The events aims to bring people together so they can meet their neighbors, build lasting relationships, and build a community. What better place to do that than at the local community grocery store? Hope to see you there!
