Food train gearing up
Trinity Lutheran Church, 612 Main St., is beginning its seventh year of “Climb Aboard the Food Train,” raising money and food donations for the Westbrook Food Pantry.
The pantry is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that helped over 900 people experiencing food insecurity last year. The church said in a press release the food train has grown every year in its scope and the amount donated.
In 2017, the effort raised more than $8,000, along with 150 large boxes of nonperishable food items. Collection jars and food boxes are being placed in more than 100 businesses and churches throughout the city.
Businesses that would like to be a corporate donor can leave contact information with the church. The train will run through May 6, when all donations will be taken to the Westbrook Food Pantry to fill their shelves and enable them to buy milk and eggs, fresh produce and meat, and whatever else is needed to keep food in stock.
“The people of Trinity anticipate another great outpouring of generosity in our community and appreciate the churches and businesses that will be collecting food and money,” the church said.
