The Westbrook American reported on Aug. 20, 1958, that Gene Waters of Westbrook was named captain of the Bowdoin College football team. Waters, son of Frank Waters, was a halfback.

Philip Mailhot was chairman of  Westbrook’s Democratic City Committee that opened a headquarters and would be staffed until Election Day.
