A Standish man who made headlines when he donated a kidney to a stranger last year was indicted last week by a York County jury on five counts of sexual assault.
Joshua Dall-Leighton, 31, faces four charges of gross sexual assault (a Class B crime) and one charge of unlawful sexual contact (a Class C crime). He was indicted Wednesday, Nov. 9.
The assaults allegedly occurred between Dec. 10, 2015, and Feb. 3, 2016. The cases were investigated by David Verrier of the Maine Department of Corrections.
Dall-Leighton is a former corrections officer.
In December 2014, Dall-Leighton responded to a South Portland woman’s plea for a kidney after he saw a message written on the window of her car.
The surgery almost didn’t happen after Dall-Leighton raised $50,000 to help cover his expenses through the social networking site GoFundMe, which ran afoul of federal laws designed to regulate organ transplants.
The case was eventually cleared and Dall-Leighton donated his kidney in June 2015.
