Hallelujah Party

On Monday, Oct. 31, Cornerstone Assembly of God church on Cottage Road will hold a “Hallelujah Party,” to help solve “the case of the empty tomb.” From 5-7:30 p.m., there will be games, activities, face-painting and candy. Dress up as your favorite Bible character or as a detective. This is a free event.

Family Literacy Fun Day

Join the Windham Public Library on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at for Family Literacy Fun Day at Windham Primary School. The 10th anniversary celebration will showcase returning authors Scott Nash, Jennifer Jacobson, Chris Van Dusen, Kevin Hawkes, Lynn Plourde and Matt Tavares. Books will be available for purchase (checks or cash only) or bring along your own books to be signed. Author visits are courtesy of the Richard Clark Library Fund. The day will also include craft activities, door prizes, a book swap, games and resources for families. Holiday food baskets, toy workshop

The Windham Food Pantry is taking requests for Thanksgiving baskets until Nov. 3. That’s the last day to sign up, which must be done at the pantry. Signups for the Windham Toy Workshop and Christmas dinner will be held Nov. 7-Dec. 1 for Windham residents only. Signups cannot be done by phone; proof of residency is required. The food pantry is the building next door to the Public Safety building and across the street from the Friends Meeting House. To sign up, go to the Windham Food Pantry Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to fill out an application.

Good Shepherd Food Mobile

On Tuesday, Nov 1, the Good Shepherd Food Mobile will be at the Food Pantry from 10-11:30 a.m. Tell your friends and bring your own bags or boxes. The Food Mobile is available for towns around Windham, as well. The Food Pantry is on Route 202, next to the Public Safety Building and across from Friends Meetinghouse.

Pet food drive

Stoneledge Animal Hospital will hold its second annual pet food drive beginning Tuesday, Nov. 1, to help support families and pets in the Windham and Westbrook areas. Donations are split between both the Windham and Westbrook food pantries. Those who would like to participate can drop off unopened canned or dried pet food, new and unused bedding or toys at Stoneledge Animal Hospital from through Dec. 22. The hospital will also accept cash donations and will purchase food with those funds through Royal Canin and Hills, their dog food vendors. Stoneledge Animal Hospital is on Route 302 in the Prides Corner area of Westbrook.

• Special meeting – A special meeting of the Windham Veterans Association will be held on Monday, Dec. 19, at 6 p.m. at the Veterans Hall in North Windham.

• Country-western concert – A country-western concert featuring Lou and Maureen Mathieu will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Windham Veterans Center. A bean supper will be served from 5-6:30 p.m. with the concert at 7 p.m. Admission will be $8 for the supper and $10 for the concert or $15 for both. Proceeds will benefit the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame and Windham Veterans Center. For more information, call Dick at 310-0390

• Free trip for veterans – American Legion, Field Allen Post 148 is sponsoring a trip for local veterans to the South Portland Maine Military Museum on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016. Bus transportation will be provided and will depart the Windham Veterans Center (behind Hannaford’s) in North Windham at 12:30 on the 1st. A lunch will be provided after the visit, compliments of the Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemoration Committee. This trip is for veterans only. • Veterans Coffee Break – Every Wednesday, a Veterans Coffee Break is held from 9-11 a.m. at Windham Veterans Center. All veterans welcome to stop by and take a break from the day’s routine, visit with old or new friends and find out what’s new.

• Legion meeting – American Legion Field-Allen Post 148 will hold its November membership meeting on Wednesday, Nov 2, at the Windham Veterans Center, with a social hour at 5 p.m. followed at 5:30 by a business meeting. Note change in time.

• Veterans Service Officer Jerry Smith will hold office hours at the Veterans Center on Wednesday, Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Halloween has canceled out the October meeting of Windham Cancer Support Group. It will next meet Nov. 28 at Windham Public Library.

Medicare changes?

On Tuesday, Nov. 1, the Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) will offer a “Welcome to Medicare” seminar at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 919 Roosevelt Trail, Windham, from 10 a.m. to noon. In addition to the Medicare seminar, there will be one-on-one Medicare counseling with volunteers available from 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 1 and then each Tuesday through Dec. 7, the Medicare Open Enrollment Period. The Medicare Open Enrollment Period is your chance to find out about your lowest cost options for 2017 and perhaps change your Medicare Drug Plan or Medicare Advantage Plan. Call the Southern Maine Agency on Aging to register for the upcoming seminar or to make one-on-one appointments with counselors at 396-6500 or 1-800-427-7411.
