New date for Speakout for Nolan
Because the originally scheduled program had to be postponed, Bill Diamond will host Speakout on Windham’s local channel 7 at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, on promoting assistance/help for little Nolan Desmond of Windham. Seven-month-old Nolan recently started chemotherapy at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston to remove two large tumors from behind both his eyes. Claws for a Cause
On Saturday, Sept. 24, from 5-6:30 p.m., the Windham Knights of Columbus will holds its 4th annual “Claws for a Cause” lobster dinner, this year to benefit the Windham Food Pantry. The dinner is at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and includes a single 1¼ lb. lobster for $17, double for $25, or two ¼-lb. hamburgers for $9. Dinners include corn, potato salad, coleslaw, a beverage and a homemade dessert buffet. Tickets will be sold at the door until they’re all gone.
Cancer Support Group
Windham Cancer Support Group will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, at the public library. This is a casual group for those whose lives have been affected by cancer.
Schooner Fare Music with a Mission
Schooner Fare will perform in concert at 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, at the North Windham Union Church.
“We are very proud to welcome Schooner Fare as our headliner to close out our fourth season for Music with a Mission,” Dr. Richard Nickerson, minister of music for NWUC, said in a prepared statement. “Schooner Fare is a true Maine treasure. For over 40 years they have delighted audiences throughout the country, across Canada and Ireland. So, don’t miss this show – you’re in for a real treat!”
Since 2013, the 37 Music with a Mission concerts sponsored by the North Windham Union Church have provided over $39,000 for mission support to the church and other local non-profit organizations. Proceeds from the Schooner Fare show will benefit the mission.

Lakes Region Senior Center has rescheduled its Oxford Casino trip to Sunday, Oct. 2. The brunch-trip attendees will meet at the center at 8 a.m. and carpool, with riders sharing gas cost, to the casino. Brunch and entertainment is “on your own.”

Medicare Open Enrollment
On Tuesday, Oct 4, the Southern Maine Agency on Aging will offer a “Welcome to Medicare” seminar at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 919 Roosevelt Trail from 10 a.m. to noon. In addition to the seminar, there will be one-on-one counseling with volunteer Medicare advocates from 9 a.m.-noon and then each Tuesday from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, the Medicare Open Enrollment Period. Country-western concert
A country-western concert featuring Lou and Maureen Mathieu will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Windham Veterans’ Center. A bean supper will be served from 5-6:30 p.m. with the concert 7 p.m. Admission will be $8 for the supper and $10 for the concert or $15 for both.
