Raymond seeks finance director to replace Yates

The town of Raymond is soliciting applications for a new finance director to replace Nancy Yates, who is retiring at the end of October.

Yates will have worked for in the town’s finance department for 20 years this October, and spent 10 years as Finance Director.

Her greatest accomplishment, she said, was working with town staff to achieve an AAA rating from Standard and Poor’s, awarded to towns on the basis of their financial state and management policies.

Yates said she looks forward to spending more time with her family, and plans to go rafting in the Grand Canyon with her son in November.

Town Manager Don Willard said he hopes to complete the hiring process as quickly, so that the new candidate will have a chance to work with Yates.

It’s a good time to hire a new finance director, he said. The audit has been competed and the town has not yet started developing next year’s municipal budget.

The finance director is a key position for the town, Willard said, responsible for all municipal financial management activities. These include accounting, budgeting and financial forecasting.

“It’s a very important position,” said Willard. “It requires someone with impeccable financial skills and the requisite background and training,” including a bachelor’s degree in finance.

Willard said the right candidate will be “someone with a high level of energy, drive  and enthusiasm for the position.” The finance director should be someone who can “interact well and positively with the public,” he said.

The deadline for applications is 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25. Applications and a description of the position are available on the town’s website, www.raymondmaine.org.

Applications being taken for Standish Planning Board

The Standish Town Council is soliciting applications for an Area 1 seat on the Planning Board.

The position was previously held by Alta Harding, who resigned because she is moving, Town Manager Gordy Billington said at the council’s regular meeting Aug. 9.

The council will make an appointment for the one-year position at its next meeting on Sept. 13.

Priority will be given to candidates from Area 1. The Council can appoint an At-Large candidate if a qualified candidate from Area 1 is not found by September 9.
