A reminder from the library: “All you need is your Windham Public Library card to access hundreds of digital offerings for free. Our 3M Cloud Library and the MaineInfonet Download Library offer the ability to download e-books and e-audiobooks to a variety of devices. In addition, check out Zinio – our digital magazine service which offers complete, full-color digital magazines without having to leave the comfort of your home. You can enjoy the magazines through a number of popular browsers or with Zinio apps on all major devices.”

Bean supper
Cornerstone Assembly of God, Cottage Road, Windham, will host a bean supper on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 5-6 p.m. The menu includes baked beans, hot dogs, casseroles, salads, rolls, cornbread and plenty of homemade desserts. Thrift Shop
During August at the North Windham Union Church Thrift Shop, all short-sleeve and sleeveless tops will be half off. The church is near Boody’s corner (routes 115 and 302). The Thrift Shop hours are 1-3 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 10 a.m.-noon on Saturdays.
Senior Center
The Lakes Region Senior Center is a drop-in site at Little Falls Activity Center, Gorham, open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Recently the seniors treated the first- and second-graders at Gorham Recreation Junior Summer Camp program to fruit popsicles as a happy end-of-summer treat. It was great to share the Activity Center with the children and their counselors. Late summer is a good time to join others at the Senior Center for a coffee or tea break, and to check out the regular schedule of activities.
Monday meals and more
From St. Ann’s Episcopal Church come the following reminders for the community: Essentials Pantry – non-food necessities, is held at St. Ann’s on the last Saturday of each month, 8:30-9:30 a.m., for such things as cleaning and personal care products. Monday meals are held at St. Ann’s every Monday throughout the summer. Doors open at 4:30 and meal is served at 5:30. This is a free meal open to all.
School backpacks
The Windham Food Pantry Back Pack Program is signing up kids for back-to-school backpacks with supplies for grades K-8. To sign up, go to the Windham Pantry with proof of Windham residency. There are no phone sign-ups. The last day to sign up is Tuesday, Aug. 23. Donations of school supplies and backpacks will gladly be accepted at the pantry Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. The Food Pantry is almost directly across Route 202 from Friends Church and next door to the Public Safety Building.
Auditions

Early scenes
On Monday, Aug. 22, the Windham Historical Society will have a special program showing a collection of early 1900s scenes of North Gorham, White Rock and Windham. It will be narrated by Warren Gilman, longtime historian and collector of historical information. Gilman’s father, Bert, originally had glass slides of the subject area. The suggested donation is $5. Refreshments will be served, and DVDs of the program will be available. Proceeds of the sale of DVDs will benefit the North Gorham United Church of Christ. For more information, call 650-7484.
9/11 Memorial Service
On Sunday, Sept. 11, Windham Assembly of God will host a community 9/11 Memorial Service at 6 p.m. to commemorate the 15th anniversary of that fateful day. Light refreshments will be served. Military news
Every Wednesday, a Veterans Social Mixer is held from 9-11 a.m. at Windham Veterans Center. All veterans are welcome.
The Windham Veterans Association is making a limited number of granite pavers available between now and the end of September 2016. There is limited space to accept an additional 50 pavers to be installed for Veterans Day in November, on a first-come basis. Each paver provides room for three lines of information about the veteran with a maximum of 16 letters/spaces per line. Information may include name, rank, branch of service, period of service or war designation. Each paver is $50. Medicare help?
On Tuesday, Aug. 16, the Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) will offer a Medicare seminar at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Windham. The “Welcome to Medicare” seminar is scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A Medicare advocate will be available that morning. Call the Southern Maine Agency on Aging to register for an upcoming seminar or to make a one-on-one appointment with an advocate at 396-6500 or 1-800-427-7411. Seminar walk-ins can usually be accommodated. Further opportunities for these services will occur monthly on the first and third Tuesdays at the same times and location.
