The Southern Maine Athletics Association – comprised of 16 schools, including South Portland – has released its lists of spring accolades, and plenty of Riots made the All-Conference and All-Academic cuts.

Baseball

The Blazes faced some struggles on the diamond this season, but Ryan for sure stood out. He’s joined on the Second Team by many other strong names from across the League, including Morgan Pratt of Scarborough at second base, Brandon Hall of Thornton at catcher and Sam Kilborn of Gorham on the mound. Elsewhere in the outfield, Nick Archambault of Portland, Riley Hasson of South Portland, Gerek Brown of Gorham and Nate Loranger of Deering also bring speed, power and keen eyes to the deep balls.

Softball
SMAA First Team – Camryn LaPierre (SS)
SMAA Honorable Mention – Morgan Rice, Kayla Horner

A handful of teams looked unbeatable, or nigh thereon, this season, so LaPierre’s appearance on the First-Team infield lineup is truly a feat. Olivia Mora of Windham joins her at first base, Libby Pomerlau of TA at second, Maggie Murphy of Scarborough at third. Biddeford’s Brook Davis wins the slot behind home, and Sanford’s Jen Jones, Scarborough’s Lily Volk and Biddeford’s Kirsten Lebreux win the mound.

A South was flush with contenders this season, so many a school is represented on the All-Conference roster. Knapton and Oliver earn First Team slots alongside Jack Fiorini and Nick Mezzanotte of stalwart South Portland; Reece Lagerquist and Sam Neugebauer of Scarborough, this year’s State Champions; and Alex York, Mat Anderson and Carter Landry of neighbors, rivals, and A South Runners-Up Gorham.

Girls Lacrosse

SMAA All-Academic Team – Madi Mullett, Sarah Wagner, Abby St. Clair

Mullett joins the Second Team alongside the likes of Madi Hasson of South Portland, Jen Darasz of Gorham, and Emma Smith and Sami Shoebottom of Scarborough – not to mention Regan Nichols of No. 1 Marshwood and Skylar Renaud of No. 2 Massabesic.

Boys Outdoor Track 
SMAA All-Conference – Brandt Herbert (Long Jump), Shammah Gahomera (110 Hurdles/300 Hurdles), Josh Richards (800/3200 Relay), Jeremy Richards (3200 Relay), Noah Knapton (3200 Relay), Josh Lombardo (3200 Relay)

Herbert faced tough competition in the Long Jump, including Ruay Bol of South Portland and Ezra Chapola of Deering, who also made the All-Conference cut. Gahomera likewise saw strong opponents in the Hurdles, including two of the SMAA’s overall best in Paolo DeMarco (Deering) and Sam Rusak (Scarborough). 

Girls Outdoor Track
SMAA All-Conference – Nyagoa Bayak (High Jump/Triple Jump), Kelly Dyer (Triple Jump/Long Jump), Kiersten Hilton (Pole Vault)

Bayak, the freshman High Jump phenom, stands alongside her cousin, Lingdong Bol of South Portland in that event, as well as long-time highlights Moriah Biener of Massabesic and Alexis Wintle. Dyer, meanwhile, joins Emma White (Cheverus) and Alex Hart (TA) in the Long Jump. Hilton, fairly dominant in the Pole Vault, leads Bridget Rossignol (Gorham) and Kirsten Dennen (Scarborough).

Curtis Knapton takes a defensive whack in the helmet after ripping a shot in the Blazes’ midseason matchup with Windham. Knapton is the SMAA’s player of the year, a First-Team selection at middie and an All-American.

Noah Knapton, seen here at Southwesterns, is one leg of the Blazes’ All-Conference 4×800 Relay Squad.

Kelly Dyer made the All-Conference cut in both the Triple Jump and the Long Jump.

Westbrooker Bailey Ryan earned Second-Team honors for his outfield play.
