Piper Shores, a senior living community on the ocean in Scarborough, has hired Brian Kenney as its new facilities director.
Kenney is a Maine native who was trained as an engineer at Maine Maritime Academy and who has spent 15 years in facilities management, most recently in the Windham School Department and at Idexx Laboratories in Westbrook.
The most satisfying aspect of his new role at Piper Shores is being able to help and serve seniors, Kenney said.
“I previously worked as a facilities director in the Windham school system and grew quite fond of being able to do something for others that mattered every day,” he said.
As the new director of facilities at Piper Shores, Kenney said it’s now gratifying to be doing something for seniors.
“I really enjoying doing work that (positively impacts) the people who live here,” he said.
And, Kenney added, “The residents at Piper Shores are a dynamic group of people (and) I feel privileged to work here.”
Kenney grew up near Fairfield and after graduating from Maine Maritime Academy, he spent nearly five years shipping out primarily with the U.S. Navy before his wife and children drew him to work on land instead of at sea.
In his new role, Kenney will oversee a staff of nine on the 138-acre oceanfront Piper Shores campus, which is comprised of two main buildings, administrative offices and more than 160 residences and cottages.
