The Maine Wildlife Park on Route 26 in Gray is holding a Bluebird presentation by accomplished bluebird advocate Vince Caruso on Saturday, May 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Caruso will discuss how to identify ideal bluebird habitats in Maine, show the public what makes a good bluebird house, and demonstrate some ‘tricks of the trade’ in getting bluebirds to nest in your own backyards and gardens.

Caruso will also display posters and other materials about the North American Blue Bird, including information about their history, habitat, habits, and hazards to the species. Especially important is the correct placement of bluebird houses in Maine, which is a transitional zone between survival and proliferation in northern latitudes because of the short nesting season for the species. Maine’s more difficult habitat can be overcome with specially designed birdhouses, and techniques specifically designed for this northern limit of the Bluebird.

The Maine Wildlife Park has over 25 species of native wildlife on display, plus wildlife gardens, nature trails, and other interactive exhibits and displays. The park is open daily through November 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; visitors must leave the premises by 6 p.m. Admission to the park is free for ages 3 and under; $3.25 ages 5-12; $5 for adults, and $4 for seniors. Groups of 15 or more are $2.50 per person. Bring a picnic and spend the day! Family and Community Season Passes are available.
