The Bonny Eagle Athletic Hall of Fame Committee has selected five individuals to be inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame at its June 7, 2005 ceremony. The 2005 inductees include:
Bryan Brunk ’94: A football and wrestling standout at Bonny Eagle, Brunk was a three-time state championship wrestler at the Standish school. He won the state Class A title at 130 pounds as a sophomore and followed that up with a state title in the 145-pound division in his junior and senior campaigns. Brunk was named an All-American and Academic All American in 1994. Brunk’s efforts also keyed a team state title in 1994. He is currently the head wrestling coach at Messiah College in Pennsylvania.
Tracy Desjardins ’85: Desjardins starred in field hockey, basketball, and softball at Bonny Eagle. She was a four-year starter in goal for Faith Littlefield’s field hockey program and posted a career goals against average of 0.73. Desjardins was the anchor for two state championship teams (1983, 1984) and scored the winning goal in overtime in 1984 when asked to take a penalty stroke against the opposing goalkeeper. She had a career record of 11-2 with six shutouts and a 0.77 goals against average in postseason play.
Angela King ’00: King played field hockey, indoor track, and lacrosse during her four years at Bonny Eagle. She tallied 24 career goals in field hockey and was a member of the 1997 state championship Bonny Eagle squad. A lacrosse standout, she scored 154 goals in a remarkable three-year career, including 79 in 2000. Her five-goal effort propelled Bonny Eagle to a 5-4 victory over Greely in the 2000 state championship game. King holds 14 school records in girls lacrosse and was named to the Maine Sunday Telegram All-State Team and as a U.S. Lacrosse All-American. King followed up a stellar high school lacrosse career by playing the sport at Bowdoin College.
Jessica Murray ’94: A three-sport standout at Bonny Eagle, Murray participated in soccer, basketball, and outdoor track. A three-time SMAA all-star in soccer, Murray was named to Maine Sunday Telegram 2nd Team All-State honors in 1992. She led her team in scoring as a freshman and as a junior. Murray scored 954 points and averaged 11.5 points per game during her four-year varsity basketball career and participated in the McDonald’s All-Star game in 1994. A two-time SMAA champion in outdoor track (hurdles, relays), Murray was on two state championship 4 x 100 meter relay teams.
Chris Zahares ’93: One of Bonny Eagle’s greatest wrestlers, Zahares won individual state titles in 1991 and 1993. He won the prestigious Redskin Tournament in the 103 pound division on three separate occasions and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler in 1992. Zahares won eleven individual tournament titles during his high school career and was named to the Maine Sunday Telegram All-State Team in 1991 and 1993.
