SCARBOROUGH – Jim Wellehan, president of Lamey-Wellehan Shoes, has announced the construction of a new retail store scheduled to open in Scarborough at the end of October.
The new store – Lamey Wellehan’s seventh in Maine – will be located at the Payne Road Plaza at 456 Payne Road. At 6,000 square feet, it will be 30 percent larger than any other Lamey-Wellehan in the area, the company said.
The Scarborough store will set a new company standard for energy efficiency, according to officials. The lighting will consist primarily of T-8 fluorescents, new LED MR16 fixtures and daylight from four skylights. The roof will be insulated to R-40, and the walls to R-20. All equipment will be of energy-efficient design, and furnishings will be recycled and recyclable. Toilets will be of the low-flush variety.
Dave Shanks of Foreside Architects is the architect for the building, and Hebert Construction Corp. the general contractor. Chris Stanley of Lamey-Wellehan Shoes is the project manager and was the lead designer for the company’s recent Auburn and Augusta relocation and expansion projects.
When the Scarborough store opens, the company plans tours of the building for town officials, environmental groups, and businesses interested in green building.
Lamey-Wellehan is an independent retailer, headquartered in Auburn and family-owned.
