A Casco woman was arrested Monday morning, Jan. 10, for allegedly shooting at a dog that had wandered onto her 40 Tassel Trail, Casco property.
The woman, identified as 47-year-old Patricia Ann Smith, called police after shooting at the dog, which she claimed was chasing her grandson. She allegedly used a .38 revolver handgun but missed the dog that was identified as a black lab.
After initial investigation, an investigator for the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office has concluded that “Ms. Smith’s claim that it was necessary to fire her weapon to defend herself or another person was unsubstantiated. It was further determined that her grandson had already boarded the bus and was not in the area when the shot was fired,” Lt. Thomas Williams of the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a press statement issued later Monday morning.
Because of the close proximity of the neighboring residences, Smith was arrested and transported to the Cumberland County Jail, charged with reckless conduct with a firearm (Class C). She has been released on $560 bail.
