A large cast iron water line along Main Street/ U.S. Route 1 in Freeport broke in the vicinity of Bow Street on Tuesday, Oct. 2, and the full width of the road was been damaged.
Repairs are being made now and the work will require that Main Street be closed from south of Bow Street until Mill Street until 6 p.m. on Oct. 2. Final repair work and paving may continue for several days. The water system is operated by Maine Water Company, which is performing the repair work.
