Levecque, Philbrook engagement

Peter and Terry Levecque of Westbrook announced the engagement of their daughter, Kristen, to Jason Philbrook.

Philbrook is the son of Sumner and Glenys Philbrook, also of Westbrook.

Kristen and Jason are both graduates of Westbrook High School. She is employed by Little Hands Day Care and Learning Center and he is employed by Bill Dodge Auto Group.

No wedding date has been set.

Murray wins geography bee

Ian Murray, a sixth-grade student, recently topped the Wescott Junior High School National Geography Bee contest.

He is the son of Philip G. Murray Jr. and Jasmina Agrillo.

Colette Gagnon, Murray’s social studies teacher, said he recently took a written test that was sent to Washington, D.C. “If he passes, he’ll be invited to the state competition,” Gagnon said.

Troy Fogg of the eighth grade was runner-up.

‘Warm up with Storytelling’ family celebration at Warren Memorial Library

Warm up to folk tales performed by several professional New England storytellers 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at Warren Memorial Library and help celebrate the exciting gift of a 60-volume storytelling audio collection to the library.

This performance and gift have been donated by the League for the Advancement of New England Storytelling in recognition of its 25th anniversary. The league’s “Get the Words Out” project was created to honor the ongoing collaboration between storytellers and libraries.

This event includes:

Learnin’ Vernon performing “The Lobster Pot,” an adaptation of a folk tale concerning a scallop dragger that has a bad day until he catches a bit of luck that begins to change his world;

Jean Armstrong performing “Grandmother Spider Brings the Light,” a folktale from the Kiowa people of North America;

Sarah Halford performing the Inuit story, “Hare Rescues the Sun”;

Lynne Cullen performing “The Cat & the Fox”, a Russian folktale.

Gospel businessmen’s breakfast

The local chapter of the Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship International will meet for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at the American Legion hall, 17 Dunn St., Westbrook.

Garrett Lear, who has been a pastor, evangelist and Bible college teacher, will speak on the topic, “From Victim to Victory.”

Cost is $8; $6, seniors.

Dance free

Free dance classes are offered at Drouin Dance Center, 90 Bridge St., Suite 325, 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, Feb. 19, in acrobatics, tap and jazz for ages five and up.

Danielle Drouin said no experience is required and it’s a “great way to keep busy on school vacation.”
