Office hours

The Town Office, at Mallett Hall, is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday 8:30 a.m.-6:30 and closed Friday.

Meetings

The Pownal Board of Selectmen meets Monday, April 20, at 7 p.m., at Mallett Hall.

The Solid Waste Committee will meet Monday, April 13, at 6 p.m., at Mallett Hall.

The Planning Board ordinance review workshops are Tuesdays, April 14, 21 and 28, at 8 a.m., at Mallett Hall.

Planners set public hearing

The first of two public hearings the Planning Board will conduct on new or revised ordinances in preparation for vote at town meeting in June, will be held Wednesday, April 15, at 6 p.m., at Mallett Hall. A regular meeting follows at 7 p.m.

Article 6 Subdivision Ordinance is a new and improved version of the current ordinance; Article 8 Road Ordinance and Article 12 Mobile Home Park Ordinance are new ordinances whose specifications were previously housed in the Subdivision and Zoning Ordinances; Article 2 Definitions was voted on at the June 2014 town meeting and there are some additions. Draft copies of the ordinances will be available at the town office prior to the hearing.

Family fun with Sea Dogs

The Freeport Middle School PTC invites all Regional School Unit 5 families and friends to the Family Fun Night with the Portland Sea Dogs on Friday, May 8, at 6 p.m.

The Sea Dogs are playing the New Britain Rock Cats. General admission tickets are $6. The can be purchased online at https://seadogs.formstack.com/forms/freeport_night. Forms to purchase tickets directly with a check are available in the Freeport Middle School office.

Food pantry on Wednesdays

The North Pownal United Methodist Church food Pantry on 851 Lawrence Road is now open every Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. The pantry never knows from week to week what it will be getting. If any farmers or others would like to donate to the pantry, contact the Rev. Ray St. Pierre, 837-0682, or Deb Larrabee, 240-1637. The pantry helps those in need and welcomes everyone.

Taxes due

The third-quarter real estate tax payment was due on March 15. For those who owe interest on a previous payment or have past due taxes, the town is required to apply payments to the oldest tax amount first.

Men’s breakfast at church

The First Parish Church of Pownal hosts a men’s breakfast the first Saturday of each month at 7:30 a.m., open to any men who want to come. The Rev. John Wentworth leads the discussions.

Church services

North Pownal United Methodist Church worship service is Sunday at 9 a.m. Sunday School for children and adults is at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome. The Rev. Raymond St. Pierre is pastor. His hours are Wednesdays from 8 a.m.-noon p.m., by appointment in the afternoon and Thursdays by appointment. The church phone is 688-4938. For more information, call St. Pierre at 837-0682.
