A list on the Secretary of State’s website on Monday has indicated that there are four candidates for party primary elections in June for Legislative seats representing Buxton.

Maine Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap reminded candidates that the filing deadline is 5 p.m. March 15 in order to appear on the primary election ballot on June 13.

Peter P. Throumoulos of Old Orchard Beach is a Republican candidate for Senate District 5 that includes Buxton. Throumoulos was defeated in a bid for the seat in 2004 by Barry Hobbins, D-Saco. In Buxton balloting, Throumoulos lost by 210 votes – 2,027 to 1,817.

For the House of Representatives, Donald Marean, R-Hollis, and Democrat Bonita Breault have filed nomination papers for House District 131, representing part of Buxton. In 2004, Marean defeated then incumbent Breault for the seat. Marean carried Hollis but Buxton voters narrowly picked Breault 1,378 to 1,284.

In House District 130, which includes part of Buxton and Gorham, Ryan Harden of Gorham is seeking the Republican nomination. David Farrington, D-Gorham, now holds the House seat.

Hobbins and Farrington didn’t appear on the list on Monday.

A party candidate for the Maine Senate needs to obtain at least 100 valid signatures, but not more than 150. For the House, a party candidate must have a minimum of 25 but not more than 40 signatures. Candidates who are not members of a party must file the required number of signatures – at least 50 for the House and at least 200 for the Senate – by June 1 to have their names appear on the Nov. 7 ballot.
