Memorable trophy for MacDowell
Greg MacDowell took home the best convertible award with his 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme on Sept. 23 at the Durham Car Show.
The trophy was a special award, remembering Ivern Benner of Waldoboro, who died earlier this year. MacDowell had met Benner and her husband, Dave Benner, several years ago at a car show benefiting the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital and they shared the same interests in classic cars. Dave Benner presented the trophy to MacDowell.
“I couldn’t believe it,” MacDowell said. “Out of all the beautiful cars at this show and they picked mine. I was extremely honored and will cherish this award.”
The orange and white car has Sunkist on the license plates. MacDowell has won 40 trophies in the seven years that he has owned the car.
