The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of William Prouty, 87, of Hartford, Conn., who was found dead floating in Crescent Lake in Raymond at 9:25 a.m. Thursday.

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Prouty was discovered by his wife. The family owns a seasonal property on a small island on Crescent Lake. Prouty had left to meet a maintenance worker on the mainland and after not returning, the wife found her husband in the water near their dock.

Prouty was recovered from the lake and pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause and manner of his death is being investigated by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The circumstances surrounding the death are not suspicious, officials report.
