WESTBROOK – Three solid days of rain have swollen the Presumpscot River, but as of the late afternoon hours of Monday, it appears the threat of flooding is slowly fading.

According to the National Weather Service in Gray, a flood warning is in effect for Cumberland County until 11:30 p.m. on Monday. A flood warning means that flooding is imminent in the area.

The water rushing over Saccarappa Falls by the Dana Warp Mill in Westbrook was a spectacular sight, as the huge volume of water crashed over the rocks, drawing camera-toting observers there to check out the river.

But, despite the spectacular show at the falls, the Presumpscot stayed within its banks, just barely. Earlier in the afternoon, the United States Geological Survey reported that the river was slightly above the 15-foot flood mark. As of 4 p.m. on Monday, the river was back below the flood level. A Westbrook public safety dispatcher said that they had received no calls due to flooding issues on Monday.
