One “Man” Band To Perform

Boston’s Audrey Ryan is a jazz-pop artist whose influences range from Joni Mitchell to Edie Brickell. Her music has evolved over the years into an eclectic form of singer-songwriter indie rock performed as a one “man” band multi-instrumentalist. She utilizes loops on guitar as well as accordion, ukulele, banjo, drums, vibraphone and other unique instrumentation.

Ryan will be performing at the Village Coffee House, 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 7. The concert will take place at the First Congregational Church vestry, 19 Gloucester Hill Road, New Gloucester. Tickets will be available at the door, $10 per person. For more information, call 926-3260 or 653-6151.

Artifacts on Display

The monthly New Gloucester History Barn Open House will be held from 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, Feb. 7. Recent acquisitions will be highlighted, including a horse-drawn ice cutting plow used on Sabbathday Lake. The History Barn is located behind the New Gloucester Town Hall at 385 Intervale Road (Route 231). The barn is maintained by the New Gloucester Historical Society. The public is welcome to visit, and admission is free of charge.

Book and Bake Sale

Come to the Cabin Fever Book and Bake Sale at the New Gloucester Public Library on Saturday, Feb. 14, from 8 a.m.-noon. If needed, the snow date is Saturday, Feb. 21, during the same hours. In addition to a large assortment of adult books, children’s books, CDs, DVDs, puzzles and games, there are vintage books and an assortment of “Guy Fict” for stocking up the man cave this winter. All items can be purchased at bargain prices.

In addition, special holiday home-baked goods will be sold. The Cabin Fever Sale is a one-stop shopping event to stock up for February break or to help you get through the remainder of winter. Wild Animals

Meet Josh Sparks of Sparks’ Ark Animal Services and the array of wild animals he rehabilitates. This Pineland Farms family education program occurs from 1-2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 16, and is open to ages 3 and up.

Flapjacks

Shake off the winter blues at a cabin fever-buster Pancake Supper and Game Night on Shrove Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the First Congregational Church vestry, 19 Gloucester Hill Road, New Gloucester. The early game time session will start at 5 p.m., supper will be served at 6 p.m., and game time will resume after supper. People may bring a card or board game to share.

All ages are welcome to come, and the cost is by free will donation. Pancakes will be made during the 5 o’clock hour, enlisting volunteer cooks. Sausage, juice and coffee/tea will also be served.

According to the online encyclopedia Wikipedia, Shrove Tuesday (widely known as Pancake Day) is a day in February or March, preceding Ash Wednesday (the first day of Lent), which is celebrated in many countries by consuming pancakes.

Register for Pre-K and Kindergarten

If you are the parent or guardian of a child residing in the towns of Gray or New Gloucester who will be 4 years old by Oct. 15, 2015, your child is eligible for the Pre-K Program at the Dunn School in New Gloucester. Classes are 2 1/2 hours each day, with morning and afternoon sessions, five days a week. Children are assigned to either morning or afternoon slots based on their home addresses.
