The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Tyler Avenue in New Gloucester at about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday after the driver of an ATV reported that while riding his ATV in the area, someone fired a gun at him.

Upon investigation, Mark A. Leighton, 58, of 41 Tyler Ave. in New Gloucester, was arrested and charged with reckless conduct with a firearm, a Class C crime.

The handgun used was seized as evidence, according to Capt. Don Goulet. Leighton was taken to Cumberland County Jail. He posted $160 cash bail and has a July 15 court date.
