Westbrook Babe Ruth elections

The public is invited to attend the election of officers for the Westbrook Babe Ruth board of directors. The program offers organized baseball for 13-15 year olds. The offices of president, secretary, treasurer, concessions manager, website coordinator and thee director-at-large spots will be vited on. The meeting will take place on Monday at 7:00 p.m. at the offices of Desmond & Rand, attorneys, located at 55 Stroudwater St. Anyone interested in serving on the board or participating in the meeting is encouraged to attend. Local duo among top scorers at Colby

Colby senior Andy Jenkins scored 11 points in the Mules 80-71 loss Friday at USM. Through 10 games, the Gorham High School alum is averaging 28 minutes per game and is second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.5 points. Jenkins hit for a game-high 27 points in Colby’s 75-73 victory Dec. 10 against Bowdoin. The Mules are 4-6.

Westbrook’s Regina Wohl had nine points, six rebounds and five assists Saturday for the Colby women’s basketball team in a loss to Suffolk University, part of the consolation round of the WPI Invitational in Worcester, Mass. Wohl, a sophomore who was the captain of the Blazes’ girls hoop squad for two years, leads the Mules in minutes played and averages just over nine points per game. Colby has dropped five in a row after starting the season 4-0.

Elks Hoop Shot

Portland Elks Lodge #188 will be sponsoring their annual Hoop Shot Contest on Sunday starting at 9 a.m. at the Riverton Community School, 1600 Forest Ave., Portland. Youngsters aged 8-13 compete in six categories, shooting basketball free throws. Boys and girls from the greater Portland area are welcome to participate.
