Cape rolls to sixth straight win

The Cape Elizabeth Capers continued their perfect season last Friday night, getting a 25-14 win at home over Wells.

The Capers (6-0) never trailed in the contest, opening up a 13-point first quarter lead over the Warriors (2-4), who despite the loss, gave Cape, which has defeated their opponents by a combined score of 242-28 this year, their closest game of the season so far.

Cape opened the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Jim Bump to senior Tom Ray. Sophomore back Tom Foden followed that score with a 69-yard touchdown run to give Cape a 13-0 lead.

But the Warriors would answer back in the second quarter when senior quarterback Vander Forbes found Ryan Jolley for a 10-yard touchdown to cut the Cape lead to 13-7.

Cape came right back to answer the Warriors touchdown with a 30-yard touchdown run by senior captain Sean Meagher to extend the Capers’ lead to 19-7 at the half.

But the Warriors refused to go away, in the third quarter, they got right back into the game with a 40 yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-three from Forbes to Pete MacDougall to cut the lead to 19-14.

But that was as far as the Warriors got. The Capers dug in and held Wells scoreless the rest of the game, while adding an insurance touchdown in the fourth courtesy of a 20-yard pass from Bump to Foden.

This Friday night, the Capers will square off against Greely at Hannaford Field at 7 p.m. Greely comes into the game 4-2 on the season and will be looking to get back on the winning track after suffering a 62-0 pounding at the hands of Mountain Valley at home last Saturday afternoon.

Red Storm falls to Marshwood

The Scarborough Red Storm dropped to 2-4 on the season after dropping a 42-21 decision at home to Marshwood on Friday night.

Marshwood (4-2) controlled the contest from the outset, scoring 34 unanswered points in the first three quarters, two touchdowns coming on interception returns from Marshwood’s Jon Hussey.

The Red Storm got on the board in the fourth quarter, scoring three touchdowns, but Marshwood added another fourth quarter score to make the final score 42-21.

Scarborough faces another tough opponent this week, as they travel to Massabesic on Friday night to take on the Mustangs at 7 p.m.

The Mustangs (5-1) saw their dreams of an undefeated season go up in smoke on Saturday afternoon, as they dropped a 14-0 decision to Thornton Academy in Saco.
