GORHAM – A Gorham woman reports seeing a large bear in broad daylight near her home a short distance from downtown Westbrook.

“It was a good sized bear,” Lucille Siegler of Lowell Road in Gorham said, describing the bear as big and black.

From their yard, she and her husband, Mark Siegler, saw the bear run from a neighbor’s yard about 2 p.m. recently. She thought the bear might have been dining at a neighbor’s bird feeder.

She thought they might have spooked the bear when it heard them talking in their yard. The bear dashed into a wooded area behind the Siegler home. “It was running on all fours,” she said.

The locale near the Westbrook city line is rural but close to Westbrook residential areas with children.

She called her immediate neighbors, warning them about sighting the bear.
