Coach: Kevin Cooper
Last year’s record: 5-4, lost in Western Maine quarterfinals
Key players: Tyson Goodale, (Sr.-QB/DB), Riley Murphy (Sr.-RB/LB), Shawn Duane (Sr.-TE/DE), Seamus Meyer (Sr.-WR/DB), Tom Eppich (Sr.-WR/DB), Tyler Campobasso (Sr.-OG/DT), Andy Martel (Sr.-OG/LB), Wade Mandeville (Sr.-OT/DT), Joe Bissonnette, (Jr.-WR/DB)
Key games: Sept. 14 vs. Thornton Academy, Oct. 6 at Cheverus, Oct. 19 at Windham
Season outlook: Bonny Eagles has been the state’s most consistent program in Class A over the last eight years, winning four state championships and never failing to make the playoffs. But the Gold Ball hasn’t gone back to Standish since 2008 and last season the Scots exited the playoffs in the opening round. Entering his 15th season, Cooper might have the team to get back to Fitzpatrick. In Goodale, the Scots have a dangerous dual-threat quarterback who scored 19 touchdowns last season and threw for seven more to run their vaunted spread attack. The Scots will have to fill in the holes at the other skill positions after graduating most of their starters from last season. Murphy will be in the backfield with Goodale and will be a second-threat on the ground, while Duane is the top returning pass catcher. The senior trio of Eppich, Meyer and Bissonnette will be the other main targets in the air after not recording a catch between the three of them last year. Where the Scots do return a strong nucleas is in the line, where Marte, Mandeville and Campobasso will be a force. Cheverus and Thornton head into the season as the favorites in Class A West, but Bonny Eagle is right on their tales and if Cooper can develop some threats to go along with Goodale, the Scots will be in the thick of it come November. The home opener against Biddeford last Friday was a good start, as Goodale ran for three touchdowns and threw for three more in a 42-14 romp.

Coach: Ed Taylor
Last year’s record: 4-10, didn’t make playoffs
Key players: Sam Campobasso (Sr.-forward), Lindsey Gammon (Sr.-midfield), Kelsey Sicard (Jr.-midfield), Haleijh Libby (Jr.-defense)
Key games this season: Sept. 18 at Gorham, Oct. 3 vs Massabesic, Oct. 16 vs. Windham
Season outlook: After missing the playoffs last year, Taylor and his group are gunning for a return trip this season. “I feel very confident in this talented group. I strongly feel that we will surprise a few teams this season. We all feel like this group can make a playoff run which would bode well for our program and future,” the coach said. The squad will be led by seniors Campobasso and Gammon, both good all-around athletes who will be relied on to create offensive and score goals, while Libby will anchor the back line. The team returns nine seniors, most who have been on varsity for three years, and Taylor said the team was gelling much better than in previous seasons.
The Scots have a brutal start to the season with three games right off the bat against Thornton, Sanford and Cheverus, three of the favorites in Western Class A, and suffered a 10-0 defeat at the hands of TA last Friday. But the schedule gets easier in the middle part of the year, and if the Scots can find a flow heading into October the playoffs are a possibility.

Coach: Caterina Riitano
Last year’s record: 2-10-2
Key games this season: Sept. 11 at Cheverus, Sept. 21 at Windham, Oct. 3 vs. Massabesic,
Key players: Jordan Ray (Sr.), Courtney Ross (Jr.), Cassidy Merrill (Jr.), Alexis Lambert (So.), Ashlyn Wintle (Fr.)
Season outlook: After missing the playoffs last year, Riitano said her team’s goal was simply “to go out each day and work hard in practices and play hard in games.” The Scots opened the year with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Gorham last Friday as Lambert and Merrill each scored a goal and Wintle made nine saves in net in her first varsity game. The Scots now face a tough test this Friday when they head to Marshwood to face the defending Western Class A champions. With a good showing there, Bonny Eagle will look to be a team that can make it back to the postseason come October.

Joe Bissonnette sinks his hooks into another Tyson Goodale pass and races 52 yards for a touchdown against Biddeford on Friday. Bissonette caught five passes for two touchdowns and 132 total yards in the 42-14 victory.
On Friday, Scots quarterback Tyson Goodale ran for three touchdowns, threw for three touchdowns – and when it wasn’t his turn with the ball – went to the defensive backfield and put a few big hits on the Biddeford Tigers.
Bonny Eagle goalkeeper Jeff Martin returns to lead the Scots soccer squad.
