Durham Fire ?and Rescue ?holding gun raffle

Durham Fire and Rescue, in conjunction with Cabela’s, is selling tickets for its annual gun raffle. Only 3,000 tickets will be sold at $20 each and the odds of winning are 1 in 100.

One winning name will be drawn daily starting on Nov. 1 through Nov. 30. The winner will have choice of gun or a Cabela’s gift certificate. Tickets can be purchased from Durham Fire & Rescue at the station. Call 353-2473 for more information. Tickets are also available at the Durham Get & Go.

Movie poster sales? benefit nonprofits

The Nordica Theatre, located on Depot Street in Freeport, has started a “poster donation program” for local charities.

Three times a year, a nonprofit organization will be the recipient of the money raised from the sale of posters, standees and banners that were displayed in the theater.

The first recipient of the program was Community Spay-Neuter Clinic of Freeport Maine.?On Sept. 10, the clinic was presented with $169 that was collected from the months of June, July and August. ?The next recipient of the money from the theater’s poster donation program is the Freeport Community Food Pantry, which serves residents of both Freeport and Pownal. Money raised from the sale of the posters in September, October, November and December will go to the food pantry.

Jewelers displaying rare diamonds

Judy and Steve Brown, founders of Brown Goldsmiths in Freeport, will celebrate the start of their 45th year of heirloom-quality jewelry designs by hosting a two-day event on Sept. 21 and 22 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. showcasing a collection of rare natural-fancy color diamonds, which are diamonds that possess a rare, natural color. The store is located on 11 Mechanic St.

The company, founded in 1967, has a complete goldsmithing studio on premise.

Hundreds of people lined Freeport’s Main Street Sept. 14 to join the Freeport Flag Ladies as part of “A Time To Remember,” commemorating the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. For an hour, people stood along Main Street holding candles and flags and waving at drivers who beeped their horns in support.
