Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies responded to 494 Snow Hill Road in New Gloucester Thursday night for an assault at a residence.

Two people were arrested after being kicked out of the residence and then returning and assaulting a resident and causing damage to a vehicle.

Dale Eldridge, 42, and Kristin Dunphy, 33, both transients from Portland, were charged with aggravated criminal trespass. Eldridge was also charged with aggravated assault and aggravated criminal mischief. Dunphy was additionally charged with simple assault.

According to Captain Craig Smith, after being asked to leave for causing a disturbance, Eldridge and Dunphy returned 20 minutes later and forced entry to the residence by breaking a door. Eldridge then assaulted the victim with his fists, a rake handle and a wooden cane, Smith said. Dunphy also assaulted the victim at the same time. The victim, who was home with his elderly mother, was able to fend them off.

After the assault, Eldridge and Dunphy left the residence and then caused significant damage to the victim’s vehicle. The victim received moderate facial injuries but refused transport, Smith said.

Bail has been set at $25,000 cash for Eldridge and $1,500 for Dunphy, Smith said.
