Winter Jackets, Coats Needed
The Windham Clothes Closet, a welcome free resource, is in need of warm winter jackets for children. Bring your gently used children’s winter jackets/coats, sizes infant through 20 and men’s sizes small and medium to the Clothes Closet Monday and Tuesday mornings (downstairs at the food pantry) or at other times, through Thursdays, to the food pantry. Location is right across the street from Friends Church.

Bean Supper
A bean supper will be held on Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Windham Veterans Center from 5-6:30 p.m. This is hosted by the American Legion Field Allen Post 148. The menu includes a variety of beans, salads, beverages and desserts. Advance tickets available from Dick Small (310-0390) or at the door. Adults $8; children under 12, free.
Speakout
Legislation Update is the subject for the Speakout program on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. in Town Council Chambers. Watch the program on local cable TV and call in your questions, or go to town hall council chambers and ask in person. Guests this month will be Mark Bryant and Patrick Corey.
Song and Dance
The Windham Middle School Drama Club will present Annie, Jr., featuring more than 50 students, on Friday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 2 and 7 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center at the high school. $5 for senior citizens and students/Windham Middle School staff with school ID. $10 for others. Box office opens half an hour before showtime.
History of Skiing in Maine
At 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, Windham Historical Society will present “A Fireside Chat” by Scott Andrews of the Ski Museum of Maine, all about the history of skiing in Maine. The program will be held at Windham Public Library’s public meeting room. There is no charge, but a $5 donation is suggested to help the historical society continue its expansion project, the Village Green. For more information, call 892-1306. Refreshments will be available. Those attending are welcome to bring old ski equipment – and memories!
Church Supper
On Saturday, Jan. 31, Tuttle Road Methodist Church in Cumberland is holding its fifth Saturday baked bean supper featuring three kinds of beans, macaroni and cheese, chop suey, cole slaw, homemade pies and beverages. $8 for adults, $5 for children. Medicare Reminder
On Tuesday, Jan. 20, the Southern Maine Agency on Aging will offer a Medicare seminar and counseling for the Lakes Region at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 919 Roosevelt Trail, Windham. A Welcome to Medicare seminar is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon. In addition to the seminar, there will be one-on-one counseling with volunteer Medicare advocates available from 9 a.m. to noon. Please call the Southern Maine Agency on Aging to register for the upcoming seminar or to make a one-on-one appointment with a Medicare Advocate at 396-6500 or 1-800-427-7411. Seminar walk-ins can usually be accommodated. Further opportunities for these services will occur at the same location in February. Thrift Shop Sale
North Windham Union Church UCC’s thrift shop at 723 Roosevelt Trail is having a “Hanger Sale” with items on a hanger costing only $1 for the month of January. There are also housewares, books, baby clothes, etc. for sale. Hours are 1-3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and 10 a.m.-noon on Saturdays.
Spinning Demonstration
On Monday, Jan. 19, at 10 a.m., a spinning demonstration will be held at the Lakes Region Senior Center, UCC Church in North Gorham. Jenny of Underhill Fibers will be using Angora fibers and will also have samples of her creations, as well as an Angora rabbit. All are welcome to stop in.
Veteran Support
Veteran Service Officer Matt Haley will be available at the Windham Veterans Center on Wednesday, Jan. 28, from 9 a.m.-noon. In the interim, he can be contacted at 430-5143.
