Two Craft Fairs
Hello readers. Hope you are enjoying all this lovely fall weather.
With fall, comes craft fairs. Two different craft fairs are being held in Sebago on Saturday, Nov. 17. Both are looking for crafters. Spaulding Memorial Library’s event will run from 9 a.m. to noon. Nonprofit organizations are welcome. Table rental is $10. They will have a baked goods table. Contact 787-2321 for more information.
The second fair will be held at the North Sebago United Methodist Church. Tables are available for $15. For more information, contact Roby Dyer at 787-2661. Also, the next Bean Supper will be held there on Satuday, Oct. 27 from 5-6:30 p.m.
Gospel coming to Sebago
Four+One, a men’s gospel quartet, will be performing at the Sebago Church of the Nazarene on Route 114. There will be fellowship and refreshments after the concert, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend. For more information, contact Rita Desrosiers at 784-1724.
Recycling
Help protect the environment by recycling. There are two places to recycle in Sebago. The Green Library Project accepts cell phones and ink cartridges for recycling. The program offers cash for each cell phone turned in. The collection bin is located at Spaulding Memorial Library. Check out the Web site www.spaulding.lib.me.us and click on the GreenLibrary icon.
For all your other recycling needs, swing by the Sebago Transfer Station located on Long Hill Road. It is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bins for paper, paperboard, plastic, glass, bottles and cans are easily accessed. Trash that cannot be recycled goes into a large compactor. Those wishing to donate returnable bottles and cans may do so. Money collected goes toward the local Boy and Girl Scout troops.
Halloween Party
Sebago’s yearly halloween party will be held at the town hall on Friday, Oct. 26 from 6-7:30 p.m. There will be games with prizes awarded. A snack table with drinks will be set up. On the stage will be a spooky storyteller. Downstairs is the ever-popular haunted house. Older children will be put to work. Some will be “haunters.” Others will lead younger children through the haunted house. Lastly comes the costume parade, ending with the costume contest. This is always very popular. Some years there is a pumpkin decorating table as well. For more information contact Corinne Davis at 595-8173. Refreshments will be provided courtesy of the Parent Teacher Club.
Sokakis Weather Station
My husband will surely love this one, he being our “in-house” weather consultant. Mike Anderson of North Sebago maintains a Web site tracking our local weather. I discovered this site through the Town of Sebago Web site: www.townofsebago.org. Click on Sokakis weather station link, or go directly there: http://home.gwi.net/~mjall4/sokokis.htm. What a great site. You can check current temperature, barometric pressure, dew point, humidity, wind speed and direction. Also featured is a skycam with images of the Sebago skyline.
Sebago Historical Society
Interested in history? Interested in viewing historical photographs? Have an old item you’d like to donate? Well, maybe you should join the Sebago Historical Society, or at least visit their museum. The society’s meetings take place on the fourth Wednesday of the month. The group meets at its museum on the Convene Road. The building houses many permanent displays and photograph collections. During the summer months, there are open houses and special events. One may also make an appointment to attend at other times. President and curator for 2006/2007 is Ann Burns. You may e-mail her with any questions: sebago73@roadrunner.com.
Lake Region Youth Soccer
Alex Langadas, Brandan George and Gunnar Harriman are members of the U11 travel soccer team. They have been playing soccer for many years. It is Alex’s second year of travel soccer, Brandan and Gunnar’s first year. They have been to Cape Elizabeth, Gray, Gorham, Naples and Bridgton. There are three goalies, Gunnar, Jake Thompkinson, Alex Langadas. They would like to encourage more children to join next year.
In other local sporting news, Molly Christensen, Melanie Blanchet, Sarah Camacho, Grace Farrington, Carlie MacVicar and Helena Luce are members of the Sebago Recreation girls soccer grades 3/4. They are having an excellent season, having won four games and remaining undefeated.
Parent Teacher Club
Six members of the Parent Teacher Club met Wednesday, Oct. 10. Room parents were chosen for each class grades K-6. Upcoming October events were discussed. Family Bingo Night will be held in the school cafeteria on Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 6:30-7:30. Parents will be providing the snacks and drinks. Prizes will be given to winners. The Chewonki Halloween visit has been paid for. I will detail the exciting exhibits the Chewonki Foundation brings to you in a later column.
CPR and defibrillator classes at library
Three automatic external defibrillators were donated to the town of Sebago. Firefighter Tim Smith wrote a grant to the Narragansett Foundation to receive funding for them. Included is the training and booklets. One defibrillator is at the Sebago Town Hall. Another is at the elementary school; the third is at the library. The library is in the process of setting up classes for the use of the defibrillator and CPR as well. Stay tuned for updates on this.
