Four people are in the hospital following a head-on collision in Windham today.
Officer Peter Fulton of the Windham Police Department said it’s too early to release names or medical conditions, but revealed that at 1:22 p.m. a Ford Escort driven by a 16-year-old male collided with a Chevrolet sedan near 645 River Road.
Fulton said all parties involved wore seat belts and it saved their lives. The male driver and his teenage female passenger were the most seriously injured. The male reportedly went partially through the windshield.
A small dog in the Ford was unrestrained and killed in the accident.
Fulton said two adult women, a mother and a daughter, an infant boy and a young boy about 4 or 5 were in the Chevrolet. The two women were hospitalized, but Fulton said the children were car seats and unharmed
Fulton said the accident is being reconstructed to find out the exact cause, but winter conditions helped cause one of the cars to cross the center line.
“No question about it. Roads at the time were slushy,” said Fulton. He said the Ford driver’s inexperience may have also been a factor.
Four people were hospitalized after two vehicles collided on River Road in Windham Thursday afternoon. Windham police speculate weather contributed to the head-on collision, but have not named victims in the accident.
