RAYMOND – An elderly man and woman were found dead in a Raymond home early this afternoon as a result of what officials suspect was carbon monoxide poisoning from a generator running in the basement.

A neighbor went to the home at 76 Musson Road, which had lost power due to the weekend storm, after the man and woman had not been heard from today, Capt. Jeff Davis of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said in the a press release.

After the man was found unconscious, Raymond firefighters were called to the scene. A reading with a carbon monoxide meter found high levels of the fatal gas.

“A generator was running in the basement of the residence at the time and it appears that the residence may have been without power as a result of the recent storm,” Davis said.

The names of the deceased are being withheld pending family notification.

“We are early in our investigation and we suspect at this time that the high levels of CO may have been a contributing factor in the two deaths. Additional details surrounding the incident will be released as they become available,” Davis said.
