Thanksgiving service

The annual community Thanksgiving service, sponsored by the churches of Freeport, is on Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Community of Christ, 49 Park St., Freeport. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Peter Heinrichs, pastor of the First Congregational Church. The public will have an opportunity during the service to speak words of thanksgiving. Refreshments will follow.

People are asked to donate canned or non-perishable food the Freeport Community Services Food Bank or cash for the Freeport Community Services Fuel Fund. For more information, contact the Rev. Sandy Williams at 865-4404.

‘A Christmas Carol’ at Freeport Factory Stage

Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”, a one-man show featuring Broadway veteran Will Rhys will be performed at the Freeport Factory Stage, 5 Depot St., Freeport. Freeport Players present “Radio Hour’

The Freeport Players will be presenting the ninth annual “WFCP Home Time Radio Hour” on Dec. 7 -8 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Freeport Performing Arts Center, 30 Holbrook St., Freeport.

The Freeport Players will entertain with music from the 1940s, ’50s and early ’60s, from smooth crooning and torch singing to blues and rock. There will be comedy sketches, and the Swingtones return with commercial jingles and a special surprise for fans of swing harmony. The show will also feature special guest appearances by local bands Crabapple Jam, Not Too Shaap and NE Town.

Firewood fundraiser ?to benefit epilepsy

Doherty’s North Freeport General Store is selling tickets for a firewood raffle in honor of Alexandra Daniel, a Freeport teenager with epilepsy. Daniel, 17, was diagnosed at the age of 9, and is on a large dose of medications to control her seizures. The raffle prize is one cord of firewood delivered to the winner’s home. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5.

The firewood will be on display at the North Freeport General Store until the drawing on Nov. 23. Tickets are available at the store, or by calling Becky and James Daniel at 865-0645.

General assistance rules topic of hearing

The town of Freeport has scheduled a public hearing regarding proposed amendments to the general assistance ordinance concerning maximum levels of housing assistance. The hearing is Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. at the Merriconeag Waldorf School, 57 Desert Road, Freeport.

Information can be obtained at the town clerk’s office, the town manager’s office, the Freeport Community Library and the town’s website.

Library news and notes

The Freeport Community Library is this month featuring the photography of Eric Johnsen, a self-taught landscape photographer and camera collector. The “Reflections of Nature” exhibit is a culmination of over seven years of his work.

Maine author Monica Wood will do a reading on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m. in the Community Meeting Room. She is the critically acclaimed author of “When We Were the Kennedys,” which is her newest book, as well as “Ernie’s Ark” and “Any Bitter Thing.”

Story time for toddlers and preschoolers takes place every Tuesday morning. There are two 15-minute story times at 9:30 and 9:45 for younger kids with shorter attention spans. At 10, there is a 30-minute story time for preschoolers. The morning features songs and a small snack.

The library will be closed from Nov. 22-24 for the Thanksgiving holiday. The library will reopen on Monday, Nov. 26 at 11:30 a.m.
