Good Neighbor Mike Pattee, above, and his family have “adopted”
the care of the most important landmark in Windham, the 1735
cornerstone of Lot No. 1, near their farm on River Road. Pattee is
a truck driver and Vice Commander of the American Legion Post in
Windham. He wasn’t sure what the marker was but after dropping by
the Windham Historical Society one day, found out and took on the
task of keeping the marker free from weeds.
Residents at Ledgewood Nursing Home in Windham enjoyed a recent
visit from the Colonial ladies of Windham Historical Society, who
brought a variety of artifacts from the Society’s collection. Most
of the residents could identify some items such as milk skimmers, a
foot warmer used in carriages, an antique lunch pail, a kerosene
flat iron heater, a butter churn and butter molds, and an old razor
blade sharpener. Kim Mowatt, program manager at Ledgewood, invited
the Society to visit. Colonial ladies from the Society above are
Izzy Gilman, Linda Tetrault, Norma Rogers and Caroline Hanscom.
Some of the historic artifacts are shown on the table.
