Key games this season: Riitano stated that both Westbrook and Sanford will be good, early opposition for the Scots.

Season outlook: “Overall I think we will be strong again this year,” Riitano said. “We may have lost Payton Dostie, but we have a lot of strong mid field players returning.”

Coach: Chris Strout

Key returning athletes: The Scots are anchored by runners Samantha Cox and Kristen Glennie.

Key meets this season: “Our biggest regular season test will be our meet against Cheverus, Massabesic, and Kennebunk,” Strout said. “In that meet alone, you have 10 of the top 18 returning girls from last year’s state meet.”

Season outlook: “We return four runners from the team that came in fourth in the state and have recruited some girls from out track team who will round out our top seven and make us competitive,” Strout said. “The team has listed getting back to the state meet as a main goal.”

Boys cross country

Coach: Greg Wilkinson

Key returning athletes: Kyle Bailey, Garrett Swett, Brian Murray and Spencer Hugo-Vidal all should play a big role in leading Bonny Eagle this fall, particularly given the size of the team.

Season outlook: “Presently we only have eight runners,” Wilkinson said. “Hopefully we will add a few more (before the season gets going). We’re very young, so the goal is to show improvement throughout the season while still having fun. It’s definitely a rebuilding time.”

Coach: Kevin Cooper

Last year’s record: 8-2, lost in Western Maine semifinals.

Key returning players: The talented Scots threatened for the West title last year, and are returning a good group of starters in 2011, including LB/TE Tony Ciampi, WR/OLB Cam Cooper, RB/SS Nick Adkins, OT/OLB Curtis LaBelle, OT/DT Jordan Adams, OG/LB Andy Martel, WR/DB Matt Burnell, and QB/DB Tyson Goodale.

Key games this season: Coming off a tough 20-6 loss on the road at the hands of Thornton Academy, Bonny Eagle has a challenging schedule, including games against Cheverus, Scarborough, Deering and Windham, as the Scots look to get back into the playoffs this fall.

Season outlook: “We expect to be in the mix for a state championship,” Cooper said. “We think we have an excellent group of skill players that can run and catch, and our offensive line returns three starters from last year. We need to stay away from injuries, because we lack depth on our offensive and defensive lines.”

Season outlook: “We look to be as competitive as possible when playing against some of the best golf teams in the state, which happen to be on our schedule this year,” Gubelman said.

Coach: Ed Taylor

Last year’s record: 6-11

Key returning players: “The first would be our junior captain Sam Campobasso, who plays forward/mid,” Taylor said. “Sam has great striking power and has very good balance in both ball possession and field vision. We look to her for her consistency and for her to have a great season. Another important player would be senior captain Riley Kirk, who is a sweeper/mid. Riley is a seasoned veteran. She has great ability to stop an attack and clear the ball, she plays her angles incredibly well. We look to her for leadership. Finally, there is senior keeper Marisa Butler. Marisa has worked very hard over the past two seasons attending several camps to improve her game. I feel that she is one of the best keepers in our league.”

Key games this season: “I would say that every game is important, and not any one game sticks out to me as a key game,” Taylor said. “But we do have a very meaningful game on Sept. 28 against Westbrook. We are having a breast cancer awareness game. Our players will warm up in a pink T-shirt and will wear pink socks during the game.”

Season outlook: “We have a very young team, and I expect us to compete and improve as the season moves forward,” Taylor said. “We may surprise a few people.”
