GORHAM – The Maine Fire Marshal’s Office said that an early morning fire Wednesday that burned grass and brush around a house at 363 Sebago Lake Road in Gorham is another case of arson.

Fire investigators say, “The target of the fire was an unoccupied house on the property, but the wind blew the fire away from the building,” Steve McCausland, a spokesman for the Maine Public Safety Department, said in a report Wednesday.

The fire follows four others ruled arson and another one ruled as suspicious in a string that began March 27 on Spiller Road.

Gorham Police Chief Ronald Shepard said this latest in a series of fires in Gorham was at 1:20 a.m. at a vacant house next to the former Gammon Garage on Sebago Lake Road (Route 237).

This morning’s fire was not far from a fire that destroyed a house on Great Falls Road on April. It ocurred one week after an arson at an unoccupied house on Dingley Spring Road.

Anyone seeing any suspicious activity is asked to contact Gorham Police Department at 839-5581.
