Meetings
The Durham Board of Selectmen will meet Tuesday, Dec. 15 and 29, at 6:30 p.m., at the Durham Town Office.
Community lunch next Tuesday
Corn chowder, rolls and homemade desserts are on the menu at the next Community Lunch, Tuesday, Dec. 15, at the First Congregational Church of Durham, located at the intersection of routes 9 and 136. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and lunch is served at noon. To celebrate the Christmas season, there will be a door prize drawing. The suggested donation for lunch is $2 to $4. All proceeds fund future lunches, which generally are held on the first and third Tuesday of the month.
For those interested, the book club meets on the first Tuesday. The book for future discussions is “The Kitchen House,” by Kathleen Grissom. Those who want to share their copy can bring it to the Dec. 15 lunch. It is available at Walmart and Barnes and Noble, as well as the local library.
Christmas music night Dec. 11
The First Congregational Church of Durham, 773 Royalsborough Road, will be presenting its annual Night of Christmas Music on Friday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. Admission is free, although there will be a free-will offering with all proceeds going to LACO (Lisbon Area Community Outreach).
All are invited to enjoy soloists, the Nor’ Easter Barber Shop Quartet, readings, a children’s story, a couple of surprises and an old-fashioned sing-a-long with favorite Christmas songs and carols. Afterward all are invited downstairs for refreshments.
Looking ahead to elections
Durham’s annual town meeting is Saturday, April 2, 2016. Nomination papers will be available on Thursday, Jan. 7, to fill the following seats: Two, three-year terms for the Board of Selectmen; three, three-year terms for the Budget Committee; and one, three-year term on the Regional School Unit 5 board.
Any resident of Durham can visit the Town Office during regular operating hours to collect the form to gather at least 25 and no more than 100 Durham residents’ signatures to be placed on official ballot. Nomination papers need to be completed and filed with the Town Office on or before Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 4:30 p.m.
Absentee ballots will be available Tuesday, March 1. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Monday, March 28.

Snowmobile club meeting monthly
Tri-Town Penguins Snowmobile Club meets the last Tuesday of the month through April, at 7 p.m., at the Durham Fire Station, 615 Hallowell Road. The next meeting is Dec. 29. New members are always welcome. For more information, contact Duncan Daly at 865-6188 or Mike Yates at 865-3555.
AMVETS membership

Couponing sessions
Couponing for the Community meets the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the Eureka Community Center. It is a chance to learn couponing basics from Pat Provost, who also shows members how to use some of their coupons to benefit families in the community and military families overseas. Weekly cribbage
The Durham Eureka Community Center, corner of Route 9 and Route 136, hosts cribbage every Tuesday from 9 a.m.-noon.
Rent Eureka Center
The Durham Eureka Community Center is available for rent. The maximum amount of people the hall holds for an event is 50. Contact Nancy Decker at 751-1323 or the Town Office at 353-2561.
Food pantry
The Lisbon Area Christian Outreach (LACO) food pantry, which serves the towns of Durham, Bowdoin, and Lisbon Falls, is open Wednesday from 6-8 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m.-noon and Saturday from 8-10 a.m. The LACO Food Pantry is located at the Marion T. Morse School on School Street, Lisbon Falls. The parking lot is behind the Lisbon United Methodist Church, off Berry Avenue.

Church services
The First Congregational Church of Durham UCC, 773 Royalsborough Road, holds Sunday worship at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Peter Mercer.
Shiloh Chapel, Beulah lane off Shiloh Road, holds services Sundays at 10 a.m. Ron Parker is pastor.
Durham Monthly meeting of Friends, 532 Quakermeeting House Road, at the corner of Route 125, every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. The pastor is Douglas Gwyn.
