Drama clubs from Windham High School and Gorham High School are presenting a showcase of two one-act plays this weekend.

On Saturday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Windham High School Auditorium, the Windham High Drama Club presents “Crying Out” by Matthew Hunt. The play is directed by Tom Vail and has a cast of 31 students.

Teenage life is full of pitfalls: drugs, alcohol, suicide and unexpected pregnancies. Just saying “no” isn’t always enough. With an innovative style that combines different scenes with a chorus, this play addresses drug abuse, teen sexuality, male responsibility in pregnancy, communication and other current issues. A powerfully dramatic piece, spliced with humor, and utilizing ensemble roles, it has provoked extensive discussion after every production. It also won the Texas Educational Theatre Association Playwriting Award.

Also that night, Gorham High presents “Check Please” written by Jonathan Rand and directed by Eileen Avery. It features a cast of seven students.

Dating can be hard. Especially when your date happens to be a raging kleptomaniac, or your grandmother’s bridge partner, or a mime. “Check, Please” follows a series of blind dinner dates that couldn’t get any worse – until they do. Could there possibly be a light at the end of the tunnel?

Tickets are $3 for students and seniors. For more information please call 892-1810 ext: 341

In other Windham theater news, Windham is hosting one of the Maine Principal Associations Regional One Act Festivals in its new auditorium on March 10 and 11.
