State Rep. John Robinson of Raymond has been appointed to the Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Appropriations and Financial Affairs for the 124th Maine Legislature, which puts him in a position to shape policy regarding all state budgetary matters. He also served on the committee in the last Legislature.

“Along with the rest of the nation, Maine faces grave economic challenges,” Robinson said. “I am confident that we will able to address the budget issues in a fiscally responsible way. It is imperative that we work to implement sustainable budget policies to curb government spending.”

The Maine Legislature has 17 joint standing committees, each composed of 13 members – three senators and 10 members of the House. Each committee has jurisdiction over clearly defined parts of state government. The Committee on Appropriations and Financial Affairs has jurisdiction over General Fund appropriations and general fiscal policy, federal funds allocations, special revenue and block grant allocations, the Budget Stabilization Fund, bond issues, review of funding estimates and financial evaluation of agencies of state government.

Robinson attended the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he received a degree in industrial engineering. He is president of Robinson Manufacturing Company, a family-owned business in Oxford. Robinson is highly engaged in community organizations, including the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce, the Hebron Academy Board of Visitors and the Cumberland County Commissioners Task Force.

Robinson is serving his third term in the Legislature. He represents House District 103, which includes Frye Island, part of Poland, Raymond and part of Standish.
