A male juvenile was arrested on Tuesday and charged with arson in a fire that extensively damaged a residence at 61 Valley View Drive in Gorham.
Five people were home but made it to safety. ??“Nobody has been hurt,” acting Gorham Police Chief Lt. Christopher Sanborn said at the scene.
Sanborn said Gorham Officer Dean Hannon arrested the juvenile who was to be taken to Long Creek. Authorities said the juvenile lived at the residence.
Gorham Fire Chief Robert Lefebvre said residents were outside the home when firefighters arrived. Lefebvre said flames were shooting through the second story of the structure and he said the main house sustained “extensive damage.”
According to Gorham tax records, the assessed value is $435,500. The home is located in a secluded neighborhood off Fort Hill Road (Route 114).
A representative of the state’s Fire Marshal’s Office was at the scene but details about the blaze were not released.
Authorities said this week’s incident is unrelated to a string of unsolved arsons that plagued rural areas of Gorham in 2012.
