Global warming

Global warming: wouldn’t it be nice if this was an affectionate term describing a

warm and fuzzy feeling shared by the Earth? But instead it is a state of crisis for

our planet.

Major companies such as GE, DuPont and the electric utility Energy are examples of

an effort reduce emissions of global warming pollution. But this is not nearly

enough. Even though huge conglomerates are making efforts, although late, there

needs to be a trickle- down effect to an individual level, the private citizen.

We have become lazy and complacent. What we interpret as our right to reject change

and ignore circumstances is in fact an indictment we have placed on ourselves.

We pose a threat only to ourselves. Bound for self destruction we are blinded by

greed and lame excuses. It is so easy to say “who cares, I won’t be here in so

many years” or “no one else cares, why should I?” Yet our education should

dictate otherwise.

History will most always repeat itself in one form or another. That’s what makes

it history. What matters is how contributions or restraints are perpetuated to

dictate its failure or success.

It is not easy to make adjustments, especially investments to combat global warming

and secure conservation. But until we stop wondering the face of the planet wearing

blinders, hoping the light at the end of the tunnel isn’t in fact a train bearing

down on us, this will not change.

There is a mentality consistent with this train of thought (no pun intended) that

convinces us we have already made enough sacrifices to no avail. Changes do not

occur overnight or perhaps even in ones’ life time. That doesn’t mean it isn’t

worth it.
