With school about to begin, police are stepping up enforcement of crosswalk laws to ensure pedestrian safety.
Westbrook Police Captain Tom Roth said police have been observing drivers throughout the city failing to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks. With kids soon to be walking to school, police will be strictly enforcing the crosswalk laws. Maine law says motorists must come to a complete stop for any pedestrians crossing the street in a marked crosswalk.
