In a letter to the editor published in the Dec. 29 issue of the Lakes Region Suburban Weekly, Elizabeth Field of Standish used “deranged old fool” to describe William Orr, also of Standish. Field wrote in response to a letter written by Orr, which was published in the Dec. 22 issue of the paper. We regret allowing Field’s comment about Orr onto the Opinion page. The Lakes Region Suburban Weekly strives to allow an open debate on the Opinion page. Letter writers are given wide latitude to speak freely on topics of the day, and we will strive to abstain from printing any letter that could be construed to include personal attacks.
