Everyone is welcome to join Loon Echo Land Trust for the traditional hike up the Bob Chase Trail at the Bald Pate Mountain Preserve on Sunday, June 21, at 5 p.m. to celebrate the first day of summer. A short hike of 20 to 30 minutes, with a 300-foot elevation gain, ends at the rocky summit of Bald Pate with views of the surrounding lakes and hills.
Hikers are invited to read a poem, play a musical instrument or express a thought about summer or the environment during a brief celebration ceremony at the summit.
Hikers should plan to meet in the Bald Pate parking lot in South Bridgton, just past Five Fields Farm on Route 107. The hike will be cancelled if it is raining.
Loon Echo Land Trust preserves land in Bridgton, Denmark, Harrison, Naples, Casco, Raymond and Sebago, with more than 3,330 acres and 12 miles of hiking trails under protection. For further information about the trust, call 647-4352 or visit www.lelt.org.
