MEDFORD, Mass. – Trevor Smith, Patrick George and Ryan Curit each rushed for touchdowns, and Joe Dell’Erario returned an interception 60 yards for another TD as Bates beat the Tufts Jumbos 31-23 in Medford, Mass.

The game featured a contrast in styles as Bates (1-1, 1-1 NES- CAC) pounded the ball on the ground for 309 yards on 64 rushes, while Tufts (0-2, 0-2) passed for 363 yards, connecting on 40 of 71 attempts.

Charlie Donahue added a field goal and four PATs for Bates. Marcel Pitre rushed for all three Tufts touchdowns.

AMHERST 22, BOWDOIN 10: Max Lippe, who completed 18 of 22 passes for 141 yards and a touchdown, also rushed for two TDs to lead Amherst (2-0) past the Polar Bears (0-2) at Brunswick.

Bowdoin led 10-6 at the half on Greg Pierce’s 1-yard plunge and Jimmy Garvey’s PAT and 22-yard field goal.

But Lippe rushed in from 4 yards out in the third quarter and passed 8 yards to Wade McNamara in the fourth as the Lord Jeffs rallied in the second half.

WORCESTER STATE 47, MAINE MARITIME ACADEMY 34: Corey Spencer completed 23 of 30 passes for 298 yards and four touchdowns, and rushed for 11 yards and another score as the Lancers (4-1, 2-0) beat Maine Maritime Academy (0-4, 0-2) at Castine.

Billy Wetherbee led the Mariners with 72 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

MIDDLEBURY 42, COLBY 13: McCallum Foote threw five touchdown passes, four of which were caught by Zach Driscoll, as the Panthers (2-0, 2-0) scored 28 unanswered points in the second half to pull away from the Mules (0-2, 0-2) in a NESCAC game at Waterville.

Colby took a 7-0 lead four minutes into the game when Jason Buco caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Justin Ciero.

BECKER 34, HUSSON 7: Robert Baker completed 30 of 45 passes for a school-record 491 yards while throwing four touchdowns and running for one as the Hawks (2-2, 1-0) scored 28 unanswered points to pull away from the Eagles (1-3, 0-1) in an ECFC game at Leicester, Mass.

Ryan Dorso finished with 66 yards on 17 carries and completed his only pass attempt for the Eagles, who were outgained 565-231 by the Hawks.
